Poètiques de la destrucció, 2022
Walking into a burnt territory feels foreign, extra-terrestrial, inert. As if the terrestrial and the celestial converged in that spacetime in the midst of the blackness of the ashes, generating a strange poetic in the destruction of that place.
A well-known landscape devastated by the fire transforms into a landscape of destruction and death, reminding us that the only constant is change, impermanence. Although what we call death and destruction, could be renamed as transformation, that humans exercise over the territories we inhabit. Modifying them, fragmenting them, burning them... Giving rise to new landscapes which we have also transformed through the way we contemplate and represent them. The new windows of representation have become vertical, rather than traditional horizontal landscapes. This change is marked, primarily, by the devices we use to capture the landscape and, even more so, by the virtual spaces where we share the images where verticality prevails.
This project is based on Portbou’s wildfire in July 31, 2021, and from the investigation of the number of wildfires that occurred in Catalonia in 2021, in which 24,000 hectares were burned. The works are made of ashes from these fires.

Adentrarse en un territorio quemado tiene algo de foráneo, de extra-terrestre, de inerte. Cómo si aquello terrestre y aquello celeste confluyeran en aquel espacio-tiempo en medio de la negrura de las cenizas, generando una extraña poética en la destrucción de aquel lugar.
Un paisaje conocido arrasado por las llamas se transforma en un paisaje de destrucción y muerte, recordándonos que la única constante es el cambio, la impermanencia. A pesar de que aquello que denominamos muerte y destrucción podríamos renombrarlo como transformación, que los humanos ejercemos sobre los territorios que habitamos. Modificándolos, fragmentándolos, quemándolos… Dando lugar a nuevos paisajes que hemos transformado también a través de la manera en que los contemplamos y los representamos. Las nuevas ventanas de representación han pasado a ser verticales, en lugar de los tradicionales paisajes horizontales. Un cambio marcado, eminentemente, por los dispositivos que utilizamos para registrar el paisaje y, todavía más, por los espacios virtuales donde compartimos las imágenes donde prevalece la verticalidad.
Este proyecto parte del incendio forestal del 31 de julio de 2021 en Portbou, y de la investigación del número de incendios forestales que se produjeron en Cataluña el 2021, en que se quemaron 24.000 hectáreas. Las obras están elaboradas con cenizas provenientes de estos incendios.

Endinsar-se en un territori cremat té quelcom de forani, d’extra-terrestre, d’inert. Com si allò terrestre i allò celeste confluïssin en aquell espai-temps enmig de la negror de les cendres, generant una estranya poètica en la destrucció d’aquell indret.
Un paisatge conegut arrasat per les flames es transforma en un paisatge de destrucció i Mort, recordant-nos que l’única constant és el canvi, la impermanència. Tot i que el que anomenem Mort i destrucció podríem reanomenar-ho com a transformació, que els humans exercim sobre els territoris que habitem. Modificant-los, fragmentant-los, cremant-los… Donant lloc a nous paisatges que hem transformat també a través de la manera en què els contemplem i els representem. Les noves finestres de representació han passat a ser verticals, en lloc dels tradicionals paisatges horitzontals. Un canvi marcat, eminentment, pels dispositius que utilitzem per enregistrar el paisatge i, encara més, pels espais virtuals on hi compartim les imatges on preval la verticalitat.
Aquest projecte parteix de l’incendi forestal del 31 de juliol de 2021 a Portbou, i de la recerca del nombre d’incendis forestals que es van produir a Catalunya el 2021, en que es van cremar 24.000 hectàrees. Les obres estan elaborades amb cendres provinents d’aquests incendis.
